April 7, 2026 In Canada, every April, there is a base change. Unlike the US system that only rolls back every 5 years, Canada rolls it back every April so the changes are less drastic and easier to handle. The current PI places a 60% weighting on Fat Yield and a 40% weighting on Protein Yield (60F:40P) for the Holstein breed. After thorough consultation with breed associations, the Genetic Evaluation Board (GEB), and the Lactanet Board of Directors, the weights will be modified to 40F:60P Protein Yield for Holstein. Other LPI changes for the Holstein breed are: Calf Health will be introduced at a weight of 30% resulting in modifications to Mastitis Resistance at 40%, Metabolic Disease to 14%, Hoof Health to 11%, and Cystic Ovaries to 5%. April 7, 2026 Today, it's INDEX DAY! We start today with the first indexes coming in from Switzerland! The release of breeding values for April 2026 brings significant changes. The new ISET is being introduced. The most important changes are that greater importance is being placed on high milk fat and protein production. In addition, mastitis resistance replaces somatic cell count in the index. The most notable change, however, is the recalibration of the ISET and its sub-indices. Over time, the standard deviation of the ISET had risen to over 100. By resetting this value to 100, the extreme values will converge toward the mean. This calibration has no effect on the rankings; it affects only the published values. In the future, an ISET of 1500 will be achieved only very rarely. Continue reading..   Read More

April 3, 2026 Twelve outstanding cows from around the world were nominated and impressively represented the best of the international Red Holstein breed. Two internationally renown judges evaluated the candidates, though at the end it was the decision of the readers that awarded Temptres-Red the title. Temptress-Red EX-94, owned by Milksource, Fischer, Steinhagen & Crescentmead had a successful showyear in 2025 with winning Grand Champion R&W Royal Winter Fair, Grand Champion R&W and Supreme Champion World Dairy Expo 2025. She is an Unstopabull-Red daughter from Miss Pottsdale DFI Tang-Red EX-94-USA, the H.M. Senior Champion Midwest Spring National R&W show 2019. At Roubos Holsteins is a Hulu *RC granddaughter to Tang-Red EX-94, she is the Nr. 3 R&W PTAT female in Europe at +3.34 PTAT and sold last week in the Easter Heifer Sale 2026. April 2, 2026 The 1st Aged Cow at the Northeast Spring National Holstein Show 2026: Lo-Pine-Va Lady Crush EX-96-USA has won the Senior & Grand Champion ribbons of the show! The 6yrs. old Crush daughter was Reserve Grand Champion Royal Winter Fair 2024 and Res. Jr. All-American Sr. 3yr. old 2022. Jeffrey-Way Hard Rock Twigs EX-96 came second in the Aged Cow class and judge Brian Carscadden placed Regancrest-PR Barbie EX-92 offspring Shedd-C Bailey Bliss 3rd in this class. March 31, 2026 Last weekend it was time for the National Show in Switzerland, the Expo Bulle! The Grand Champion of the Holstein Show was won by Schönhof Alligator Dakota! She is bred by Schönhof Holsteins, Austria and sold to Mattenhof Holsteins and Dupasquier. Dakota was already successful earlier that day with winning the Udder Champion and her class! The Reserve Grand Champion went to Mattenhof Haniko Halaisie EX-93-CH! Her dam, Mattenhof Crushtime Horsine EX-94-CH became 3rd in her class at the same show and is straight out of the Grand Champion Expo Bulle 2022: Hanna-Vray EX-96-CH EX-98-MS, an unique performance!
